Artist Gary Kim is internationally recognized for his paintings. Born in South Korea, he moved to the United States in his late thirties. Before starting his career as a professional artist in New York, he worked as a successful illustrator for many years in South Korea. Additionally, he taught art and design at several colleges.
His artistic journey includes a wide range of studies, from academic figurative drawing and painting to computer graphics. He pursued an MFA in Computer Arts at Pratt Institute in New York, while also earning an MFA degree in Advertising Design from HongIk University and a BFA degree in Painting and Drawing from Inha University in Korea.
Currently, as an artist and educator, he teaches drawing and painting at a local college, and he will also be teaching at Laguna College of Art and Design in the fall semester. He is dedicated to passing down his painting skills that he has honed throughout his life.

Gary Kim 은 미국의 구상회화 화단에 잘 알려진 한국계 화가이자, 대학교수이다. 30살의 마지막 해에 뉴욕의 Pratt Institute 에 유학을 간 그는 이미 한국에서 손꼽히는 광고 일러스트레이터로 활동하면서, 한국의 몇몇 대학에서 드로잉과 일러스트를 강의하고 있었다.
뉴욕에서 그는 구상 계열의 몇몇 거장들, Daniel Greene, Nelson Shanks, Burton Silverman, Max Ginsberg 과 교류하며서, 그동안 한국에서 갈고 닦아놓은 그의 페인팅 실력을 거장의 반열에 들 수 있도록 만들었다. 2014년, Las Vegas International Art Shows 에서 미국의 거장 50인 중의 한 명으로 선정되기도 하였다.
자기 작품의 엡데이트를 멈추지 않는 그는 최근에는 그의 전통 회화 방식과 디지탈을 접목시키는 작업까지도 시도하고 있다. 화가로서 뿐만 아니라, 미술 교육자로서도 그는 미국 대학에서 드로잉과 페인팅을 가르치고 있다. 올해 가을에는 활동무대를 California 로 옮겨, 다시 한번 활발한 활동을 계획하고 있으며, Laguna College of Art and Design 에서 드로잉과 페이팅을 강의할 예정이다.
